Mixed Medley: October 2012 Creative Contest-Christmas

Today's card was made for the DOstamperSTARS Team October 2012 Creative Contest. This is a full view of the front of the card where I used the Merry Christmas and the snowflake stamp from the Mixed Medley stamp set which is a Hostess set in the Holiday Catalog
This is a side view of the card showing the many layers I used in the creation of this Christmas card for the October 2012 Creative Contest.  This is totally one of my own creations which I'm not always able to come up with but when I do I am so excited to share my cards with others.  I truly appreciate all the creative paper crafters in the world but it is really a good feeling to come up with your own idea!  Woo Hoo!
This is a view of the built up section in the center front of the card.

As you can see by this view, I have done some paper weaving on the front of my card.  There is 3/8" between each of the strips where you see the red DSP showing through.  I used the Framelits Apothecary Accents for the Very Vanilla Cardstock on top of the paper weaving.  To get the shape smaller, I first ran it through the Big Shot and then ran it through again cutting off one of the ends of the Framelits piece.  Don't forget to play around with Framelits, etc.  You just never know what you can do with them unless you experiment with cutting different angles or cutting things shorter.  By shortening the Very Vanilla piece I was able to show more of the paper weaving in the background.  Try your luck at paper weaving.  It was really fun and gave the card a totally different look.

November 2012 Creative Contest-Mitten Builder Punch

The theme for the November 2012 Creative Contest held my my upline, Dawn Olchefske, was the Mitten Builder Punch.  Dawn had given me a birthday card in October 2012 using the Shadow Box Technique.  Dawn has a GREAT tutorial on her blog showing how to create this Shadow Box card.  I took it a little further and added a battery operated tea light candle and put it in between the layers of the card.
Here is a close-up of the Mitten Builder Punch card.  I put Dazzling Diamonds on the embossed snowflakes.  Using the little tea light, made the glitter almost pop off the card.  I love how this card turned out and am trying to think of other ways I can incorporate a tea light candle.

Everything Eleanor: Get Well

Flowers cheer anyone up when your're not feeling well but sometimes you can't have real flowers because you're allergic to them.  The next best thing is a beautiful Get Well card with flowers on it.  These flowers were made with the new little 1-1/4" Scallop Circle Punch.  I also embossed the Daffodil Delight and Tangerine Tango Card Stock with the Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder and put them behind the Scallop Circle Punch..

Chock-Full of Cheer: Merry Christmas

Today's card is one made at one of my Stamp Camps.  Although I'm really not ready for winter yet, I really like the Be of Good Cheer Designer Series Paper pack.  The Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler and Very Vanilla colors make this card stunning.   The Chock-Full of Cheer stamp set is great for Christmas cards but also can be used for anything winter or even a birthday in the winter months.  My favorite part is that Stampin' Up! also came up with the Mitten Builder Punch to punch out these cute little mittens.  Is the Mitten Builder Punch only for mittens?  No.  I challenge you to take your punches and play around with them to come up with other ideas to use them.

Love & Sympathy: Flower

Today was a Color Coach inspiration day.  I went to the Color Coach to try a totally different color combination.  These are not colors I would normally put together but as you can see, they look beautiful on this sympathy card.  I really like the simplicity of this card.  I used the Love & Sympathy stamp set which has only three stamps but they can all three be used to create a sympathy card.  If you're looking for an excellent stamp set to create beautiful sympathy cards, Love & Sympathy is a great choice.

In the KITCHEN baking Candy Corn Cookies

My "Out of the Box" creation today is focusing on candy corn shaped cookies.  Aren't these little candy corn sugar cookies just the cutest little cookies?  I have been on a cookie making kick the last 2 days.  This idea came to me in an email.  Since I love candy corn so much, I just had to check out how to make them.  At first I thought, "No Way", these are going to be way too time consuming.  Well I have already made two batches of these little gems!   They are actually kind of fun to make.  This is what you do.
1. Mix up a batch of sugar cookies.
2. Separate the cookie dough in 3 balls.
3. One will be left white, the second one you will put orange food coloring in and the third one you will put yellow food coloring in.
4. Use a loaf pan and line with wax paper or plastic wrap.
5. Pat in the white layer, then the orange layer and then the yellow layer.  (or in Stampin' Up! colors, Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight)
6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate 2 hrs or overnight.
7. Take the dough block out of the loaf pan and cut the short side in 1/4" slabs.
8.  Then take a knife and cut like this:  (eg  /\/\/\/\)  You will get 6-7 little candy corns.
9. Roll them in sugar being careful not to break apart the layers.
10. Put them on a cookie sheet and bake them for 5 minutes.
11. This is my FAVORITE part!  Pop one in your mouth and ENJOY!
Can't you just see these in red, green and white, red, white and blue, pastels for Easter?  I also made oatmeal raisen cookies, craisen/white chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, and chocolate chip cookies.  (Probably about 10-11 batches of cookies in 2 days!  We have a TON in the freezer!  YUM! ! !  OK time to get back to card making!

Well you can't purchase these cookies on my Stampin' Up! website BUT if you are in need of some supplies...feel free to stop on over to my "ON-LINE STORE" and check it out!

Thanks for stopping by to check out my "Out of the Box" creations.  I guess these were in the box, especially after I got them baked.

The Open Sea: Wax Paper Technique

Today I am inspired by a manly card by Karen Philipp.  Karen's Wax Paper Technique was used to make this card.  Using this technique made this ship look like it was really floating on the sea.  This card was made at one of my recent Stamp Camps.

Bobbi's Stamping Supplies
Stamps:  The Open Sea, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Island Indigo, Pool Party, Whisper White, Glossy White Card Stock and Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper
Ink: Pool Party, Island Indigo, Calypso Coral and Black Stazon
Accessories: Wax Paper, Chevron Embossing Folder, 3" Circle Die, Circles #2 Originals Die, Jewelry Tag Punch, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack, White Uni-Ball Signo Gel Pen, 1/8" Mini Silver Brads and Stampin' Dimensionals

Everything Eleanor: Lace

My "Out of the Box" creation today is focused on the "lace look".  The Delicate Designs Embossing Folder totally gives you the lace look even without real lace.  I then used the Large Scallop Edgelit which really set it off.  Sometimes I want a pretty card without a lot of color and this card was exactly that.  The only colors used were Whisper White, Raspberry Ripple and Primrose Petals.  (Primrose Petals was used behind the Delicate Doily.  I thought it made the Dahlia pop out a little more.)  Although I didn't have a greeting on the front of the card, it could really be used for just about any occasion.

Bobbi's Stamping Supplies
Stamps:  Everything Eleanor
Paper: Raspberry Ripple, Primrose Petals and Whisper White Card Stock
Ink: Raspberry Ripple
Accessories: Delicate Doilies Sizzlits, 1-3/4" Circle Punch, Delicate Designs Embossing Folder, Large Scallop Edgelits, In Color Dahlias, 3/8" Raspberry Ripple Stitched Satin Ribbon and Stampin' Dimensionals

Itty Bitty Banners: Butterflies

My "Out of the Box" creation today is butterflies, butterflies and more butterflies.  Have you ever heard the saying, "Free as a Butterfly"?  I love that saying and maybe that is why I love butterflies so much.  I wanted buttons for the center of the butterflies so I used the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack to punch out colored flowers and then topped them with the Bitty Buttons.  I just don't use them enough, but aren't they just the cutest?  Add a Chevron embossed piece of Baja Breeze Card Stock backed with 2 Whisper White edges cut with the Finishing Touches Edgilits and WOO HOO you have one AWESOME birthday card!  Now I sure hope whoever receives this birthday card will feel, "Free as a Butterfly"!  Have a Stampingly awesome day!

Mouthwatering: "Cheery" Happy Birthday

Here I am with this brad and ribbon bow technique again.  Actually, I also just realized that my AWESOME Upline, Dawn Olchefske, has a video on You Tube on this bow technique that she calls the "Faux Bow".  You'll have to check it out!  She does tons of "How'd She DO That?" videos on her blog.   If there is anything you want to learn how to do she's probably done it!  Back to the my sweet, "CHEERY", cherry birthday card.  The cherries are from the Mouthwatering Stamp Set and that they are...MOUTH-WATERING!  Also, who said Christmas Designer Series Paper only had to be used for Christmas cards/projects?  The Gumball Green with Very Vanilla polka dots on it is from the Be of Good Cheer Designer Series Paper Pack.  I just love how Stampin' Up! gives us choices with the front and back of most of our Designer Series Paper.  No paper pack is strictly Halloween, Christmas, etc. so don't just pass up a paper pack just because it is themed based.  Chances are you'll find other ideas to use the paper for as I did with this card.

Fabulous Florets: Happy Birthday Wishes

My "Out of the Box" creation today was made using the Apothecary Accents Framelits.  Framelits are so much fun to use in card making.  I used a 2-Way Glue Pen and outlined the white lines on the flower and sprinkled on Dazzling Diamonds.  Unfortunately this doesn't show up very well on the picture but up close adds glitz to this beautiful card.  Woo Hoo!  Gotta LOVE glitz!  Don't be afraid to add Dazzling Diamonds to any card/project for additional sparkle!  This card was inspired by a card made by Mary Brown. I really liked how she made the bow using a brad and not having to tie it.  Mary's instructions for making this bow were very easy to follow.  I know a lot of people who hate to tie bows.  I'm not one of them, but this bow is so fun to make and turns out great every time.  This was a card we made at one of my Stamp Camps.  It was the first time introducing my guests to the technique.  The main thing is that the smaller the brad, you will want to use a narrower piece of ribbon.  Try this technique the next time you want to make a bow for a card.  Thank you again Mary for your inspiration on this card.  Happy bow making!

Betsy's Blossoms: Watermelon

Watermelon...Yum, Yum, Yum!  I just love watermelon.  When I was making this card, I had a hard time not stopping to go cut a piece of watermelon to eat.  The pieces of watermelon were created with one of the flower stamps from the Betsy's Blossoms stamp set.  It is so fun to take stamps and find other ideas to use them for. What would my card be without using something created from the Big Shot.  I embossed the Primrose Petals piece of card stock with the Houndstooth Embossing Folder and used the Delicate Doilies Sizzlit to cut the Daffodil Delight piece to hi-light the pieces of watermelon.  OK that's it...I can't take it anymore...I have to have some watermelon!

Betsy's Blossoms: Sending Many Thanks

The Betsy's Blossoms stamp set is a super fun stamp set to work with.  I got this inspiration from Lori Beck.  I really wanted a little background color but still wanted to be able to stamp the stems and leaves without masking them.  Well for the background color I made my own stencil.  Directions below:
Step 1 - Cut a piece of cardstock 2 3/8" x 3 3/8".
Step 2 -  Center the 2 3/8" x 3 3/8" card stock on a piece of  Whisper White card stock 4" x 5 1/4" and then trace it with a pencil.
Step 3 - Take the 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Whisper White card stock and draw a pencil line across each corner about 1/4" in from each corner. Use a 12" Trimmer and cut the straight edge on all 4 sides up to the corner pencil lines.  This will leave the 2 3/8" x 3 3/8" section still attached at each of the 4 corners.

Step 4 - Take a Paper Snips scissors and cut on all 4 diagonal lines cutting out the piece in the center.
Step 5 - Next take the Jewelry Tag Punch and punch in each of the 4 corners to round the corners. (You could really do this step with any punch with a curved edge on it that gives you the rounded corner size you would like for your template.)
Step 6 - You still have some white paper left in the corners that you will trim with your Paper Snips to give you a rounded corner look.
Step 7 - This shows a view of all 4 corners trimmed.
Step 8 - This shows you a close-up of what all 4 corners should look like when you are done.  Once you get the template made you can keep it for future use.  This was such a fun way to have a lighter sponged effect behind your stamping.  You could also use any of the framelits to cut out the piece in the center and sponge in the open area like I did on this card.
